What's my Name?

When thinking of my name it's one of those things I hardly think of, except when people, including my father, spell it all sorts of ways. No h at the end is super common among people, which is something I have gotten used to. You would think that Hanna is the one other way people have spelt my name wrong, but that's 100% not true. I have had someone spell my name Hana, which you would think is someone who barely knows me. Ya, that's a no, it was my dad, last Christmas. ANYWAY back to the point. My name is Hannah Elise Brown. My dad named me since my mom named my sister, but I still somehow ended up being named after 2 of my mom's best friends. Crazy right? I guess my dad changed the Anna to Hannah so it wasn't completely after 2 but that's how Hannah came into play. Translating and Differing

Lost in Translating so when taking foreign language classes we are always told not to use google translate because it is never exactly right and things are lost in translation. I don't know how much I really believed it until I got into higher levels and saw that what I was getting from one section was different then what someone else was getting if we tried to translate word for word. This idea is clearly shown when looking at the different translations of the same sentence in Metamorphosis. The sentences are trying to get the same point across but due to the different diction, syntax, and structure among others, the sentences do not mean the exact same thing to the reader.  The first translation reads "Gregory Samsa woke from uneasy dreams one morning to find himself changed into a giant bug." Smoke out the Lust

Smoke Out the Lust First off WOW how much ads have NOT changed in the past 40 years. Above is a cigarette ad that was originally posted my Tipalet in 1969. It is so similar to ads today that play off of Lust does to women. You would think as women get more and more rights that this process to attract men to buy certain things would change, but it for sure has not and has maybe even gotten worse. Focusing more into this ad in detail, it shows a man blowing his cigarette smoke into a woman's face. She is dressed in a white tank top that is low cut. This is trying to show her in a way that is highly sexualized. The background is a yellowish -orange that draws the attention of the reader but also sexualize it in a way because it has some red hints to it. The man is “turning her on” by the cigarette smoke. The ad is saying that the smoke is what the women want so men should smoke in order to get women. This is furthered by the words that appear on the ad, which state, “Blow ...
