Senior Year- what a crazy one

I don't know even know where to begin with this, it's such a bittersweet moment. Senior Year is coming to a close but the new chapter is just starting. Throughout all the ups and downs of Senior Year, IB and together all of high school, it's going to be crazy for it all to end. Not to see everyone every day, not to have the late night texts about history that are due tomorrow, which we should've done a month ago but just started 30 minutes ago, to all the friends that I've made and hope to maintain in college. It's crazy to think that we only have about 2 months with each other left then it's the summer., and college. Since I am not going to UNC or State like 65% of the IB class, I won't have the chance to possibly see familiar faces in classes. Well besides Cole (GO PHOENIX!!). I can't believe we are about to leave it all and I did not know where to even begin this blog post so I just started typing so ya um there will be a tad bit of rambling. I ha...

Whitman's the Man

Whitman on Whitman When looking at Walt Whitman's journal it was cool to give me an insight into his mind as I can not ask him questions about his writing because he is no longer alive. The primary source gives me a glimpse into the mind of Whitman. At first, the document was hard to read because of the quality and the fact that it was in cursive, which I haven't read all the time since third grade when I went to private school. As I kept going though I could start to understand what was written and could start to make my own opinions onto what he was saying. I could make out to what I think are names and addresses which are maybe things that he would base some of his poems off of in order to have inspiration. I also noticed the word "dialogue" which maybe shows that he was basing his poems of off people around him. On the next page, I could make out the words religious which can show why he had so many religious contexts into his works and poems. Another wor...

Just striving for the "American Dream" dude

The "AMERICAN DREAM" dude The American Dream is based on wealth and is different for everyone depending on what you deem as wealth. Some people just want to be rich and money is the most important thing in their lives. Other people think more about the wealth in their personal life and having a strong sense of belonging and family. And others are just down the middle and want money to be wealthy in that aspect but also want to have a strong family and home life. Since it is different for everyone it is important to recognize the reasoning behind it. For me, the American Dream is based less on money wealth and more on the wealth of helping people. I want to be in a position that I help others and make them happier and better people, through being an elementary school teacher. I want to be able to influence children to be good people and learn in a way that motivates that to achieve their own dreams. In a way, my "American Dream" is to help others learn and be a...

IOC

Image
IOC babyyyyy lol im so sorry I feel like this is so bad a boring!!! Link to my IOC: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1N35G5T13a7fUwWyJWu0DLpatpD3i6O3b Self Reflection: A- 5: I think I got a 5 for this part because I relate what I am saying back to the text and bring in different parts of Macbeth when I am looking at this excerpt. Even though I did well I think I could've provided more evidence and explained my understanding better. B- 3: Although I did provide use of textual analysis I do not think it was strong and even though I did explain myself I could have done better. I also think that I need to look more unto what effects the reader versus what is specifically happening. C-3: My organization was okay and could be relatively followed but I think I needed to go in order of the excerpt versus jumping around like I did even though I ended up saying everything I meant to it just was not in a way that is 100% organized. D- 4: I think the ...

Translating and Differing

Lost in Translating so when taking foreign language classes we are always told not to use google translate because it is never exactly right and things are lost in translation. I don't know how much I really believed it until I got into higher levels and saw that what I was getting from one section was different then what someone else was getting if we tried to translate word for word. This idea is clearly shown when looking at the different translations of the same sentence in Metamorphosis. The sentences are trying to get the same point across but due to the different diction, syntax, and structure among others, the sentences do not mean the exact same thing to the reader.  The first translation reads "Gregory Samsa woke from uneasy dreams one morning to find himself changed into a giant bug." The diction in this translation uses fewer adjectives and less overall words to describe what happened in a very visual way. Imagery is used because the read...

Ted Talk Saga

Ted Talk Saga of Soap Operas Link to Ted Talk: https://www.ted.com/talks/kate_adams_4_larger_than_life_lessons_from_soap_operas#t-731784 When Kate Adams started her talk, she was giving a rundown of the storyline of a soap opera and how over exaggerated they are. She talks about how she worked in soap operas, until 2009 when CBS canceled her show, and how this process changed how she looked at life. She brings her own personal knowledge of soap operas to bring up valuable life lessons that you learn from them. The first lesson is "surrender is not an option." Adams brings in how in soap operas there is no doubt, and the characters just go for things no matter what. The second lesson is "sacrifice your ego and drop the superiority complex." She brings up how we are not as important as we think we are and how we can always ask for help. The third lesson mentioned by Adam is " evolution is real." With this lesson, she brings up how in soap oper...
